Abstract

This article aims to expose various perspectives which
define social design, from its conception, to the
definition of a profession focused on the human being
and the problems which afflict society. The article
is structured in three parts: the first one addresses,
from a historical point of view, the evolution of
social design, through various movements, authors
and design references. In the second part, different
definitions on social design from different authors are
exposed, in order to contrast their various positions
and perspectives. The third part, is a compilation
of how these positions are applied to a Strategic
Designer´s training, at Mónica Herrera School of
Communications. This can be visualized throughout
the different asignment projects from Independent
Study Course and Graduate Projects, which include
a social desing perspective. Finally, a series of
conclusions and recommendatios are presented.
